Protecting Yourself At Knife Point
Learning self defense is something everyone should do, even if it is just a basic class with some fundamentals. You never know when you will be attacked or by who, and if you are attacked by an armed assailant and you have no weapons, it’s better to avoid the fight or to run away if you can, especially if the attacker is coming at you with a knife. If you should happen to be armed and backed into a corner where you must fight, make sure you do so with deadly force as the attacker is planning on hurting you, and make sure you can prove it was in self defense.
If you are unarmed and have no way of using any form of self defense technique to defend yourself against an attacker at knife point, here are some suggestions that have been tested and proven to work.
- If the attacker instructs you to do as you’re told and you won’t get hurt, give in to their demands. Give them whatever they ask for without a fight.
- If they ask you to put your hands up, on top of your head, or anywhere else, do so. This is so that they can see your hands at all times and it will be easier for you to make a move if you need to.
If you are prepared to fight back, here are some additional suggestions that may work to your advantage.
- Do anything you can to divert your attacker’s attention, such as talk, cry, or plead. While you are diverting their attention, begin to plan your defensive strategy all the while focusing on the attacker’s hand that is holding the knife.
- If you are carrying a concealed firearm, leave it in its holster. By the time you draw your weapon and prepare it to fire, your attacker will have slit your throat as they are under 21 feet away from you in close range.
- Always make sure you are outside of the blade’s arc. If you need to move in close to the attackers, stay to the inside of the forearm and make sure you control the blade. Be prepared to get cut or slashed. If you are controlling the blade, you can keep it away from vital organs.
- Always remember that a person attacking you with a knife is planning on killing you, not just scare you or hurt you. Act accordingly to help save your life in this situation.
